DAY 1

Registration

Welcome to NPDC

Players will begin the day by being introduced to EXACT’s Mental Training Staff and the college coaches in attendance. Unlike similar showcases, at EXACT players are able to get to know the coaches, ask questions, and develop relationships. Our camps have limited capacity in order to ensure that our staff is able to work 1 on 1 with the players.

EXACT’s Mental Training Staff will then acquaint the players with our unique “Knowcase” approach and mental training program and the benefits of both for young players development and ascension to the collegiate level.

EXACT is the only organization that allows players to:

  • Know Your Own Potential – Customized development profile
  • Know What it Takes to Succeed in College – Personal Consultation with college baseball coaches
  • Know Top College Programs – More college coaches partner with EXACT for player evaluation than any other organization. EXACT is the only player development system utilized by coaches at both the collegiate and professional levels for evaluation of their own teams.

College Warm-Up & Stretch

Once introductions are complete, the players will hit the field. Coaches will lead the players through the same type of warm-up and stretch they can expect to experience at the collegiate level. Players will learn the right ways to warm-up and stretch in order to prevent injury and perform at the highest possible level.

Mental Warm-Up & Stretch

The mental warm-up will include both offensive and defensive based visualization drills as well as an assortment of other exercises geared toward aligning your mental and physical processes. All of this will work toward developing the players’ understanding of the game and “slowing the game down”. The better you understand the game, the better you play it.

Parent Lecture – Optimizing Your Son’s Potential

While the players are engaging in the mental and physical warm-ups, all parents in attendance will be given an opportunity to attend a lecture detailing what EXACT is all about and the benefits of this type of training for their son’s ascension to the collegiate level. We will specifically discuss the CAPI (The Competitive Athlete Psychological Inventory) and AMP (The Assessment of Mental Performance) as well as the role parents play in preparing their son’s both mentally and psychologically to provide them with the best opportunity to play at the next level.

The Competitive Athlete Psychological Inventory (CAPI)™

Players are given a battery of 200 simple questions.  They answer 1-4 and then move on.  The questions provide an overview of how the player views himself.  There are no right or wrong answers.  This builds a mental map of the athletes behaviors as they apply to athletics.  All behaviors are changeable.

The Assessment of Mental Performance (AMP)™

Players complete a series of online “games”.  This measures the players’ reaction time, their concentration, and their spatial awareness.  It provides objective information on the players’ ability to react to changes on the field, maintain focus for long periods, and make timely decisions.

Defensive Clinic

During the defensive clinic college coaches will provide 1 on 1 hands-on instruction, and demonstrations as well as run the players through drills in order to reinforce the skills and techniques they look for in incoming freshmen.

The clinic is divided according to position:

Pitching

  • Mechanics- During the mechanics portion coaches will teach the players proper delivery both from the wind-up and the stretch focusing on:
  • Strength- the strength (core & extremity) required to execute proper delivery
  • Flexibility- the integrated flexibility required to deliver energy from the body
  • Proper Mechanics- repeatable efficiency of balance and timing through the motion
  • Mental Focus- the ability to shut out all distractions and put all mental energy into the delivery
  • Nutrition- the appropriate fuel to power the body at its full potential
  • Fielding- Pitcher’s fielding practice will include pick-off moves, fielding bunts & ground balls, covering first and throwing to bases.
  • Advanced- The advanced portion will focus on the strategy of pitching (pitch selection, pitching behind in the count, keeping hitters off balance, etc.)

Catching

  • Blocking & Receiving- First coaches will teach, demonstrate and drill catchers on the fundamentals of blocking the ball. Then catchers will learn how to receive pitches in all locations and how to best present those pitches to the umpire so they are called strikes.
  • Fielding & Throwing- Catchers will then learn how to properly field bunts, wild pitches, etc. as well as work with coaches to improve their mechanics and technique when throwing to second base (preparation, receiving, foot work, and ball release)

Middle Infield (SS & 2nd)

  • Fundamentals- Players will begin with several mechanics drills fielding ground balls and throwing to first base. Fundamentals are the most important thing and as players progress through higher and higher levels of play even the slightest flaw in a player’s mechanics can mean the difference between out and safe.
  • Middle Infield Play- This portion of the clinic primarily focuses on decision-making and various ways to turn double plays. Coaches will also cover proper mechanics for making plays on balls hit up the middle and in the hole.

Corner Infield (1st & 3rd)

  • First Base Play- First basemen will first perform the same fundamental mechanics drills fielding and throwing the baseball from their respective position. They will then be instructed in holding runners on base, fielding throws, and feeding the ball to the pitcher covering.
  • Third Base Play- Similarly, Third basemen will first perform several fundamental mechanics drills before being instructed on positioning, fielding bunts, fielding balls down the line & in the hole, and receiving throws from the outfield.

Outfield

  • Outfield Play- Outfielders will be instructed by college coaches how to properly field fly balls (body positioning, hand position, etc.), and how to line up throws to bases as well as fielding grounds balls and decision-making.

Defensive Showcase

Once players have completed the defensive clinic they will be given the opportunity to display their skills for all of the coaches to see. Players will be evaluated in the following categories:

FIELDING/CATCHING

  • Awareness/positioning
  • Hand coordination
  • Foot coordination

THROWING

  • Mechanic/release
  • Accuracy
  • Strength

PITCHING

  • Mechanics
  • Command
  • Ball Movement

Players will be scored in each category on a scale of 1-10:

  • 1-2 – insufficient capability
  • 3-4 – needs improvement
  • 5-6 – D3 hopeful
  • 7-8 – D2 or D3 capable
  • 9 – D1 or D2 capable
  • 10 – D1 ready

Coaches will provide the players with scores and notes for each category to be discussed during their one-on-one consultation on the second day.

Player Lunch w/ Coaches

Unlike most camps/showcases, EXACT gives players the opportunity to meet and interact with coaches. Once the defensive portion of the day has been completed, players and coaches will break for lunch giving them an opportunity to meet one another, answer questions, and begin developing relationships. Most camps/showcases don’t offer this type of interaction causing a lot of players to fall into the shuffle. At EXACT we try to promote player and coach interaction through a unique, personal experience.

Intro to Mental Performance

After lunch, EXACT’s Mental Training Staff meet with the players to improve their mental game and discuss important concepts that they can take away with them after the camp.  EXACT’s training emphasizes traits and mental qualities that differentiate players at the collegiate level.

We also review player profiles and discuss techniques for understanding your own mental strengths and weaknesses so that you can target your training after the camp is over.

Overall, the goal of this session is to strengthen your confidence, competitiveness, and motivation.

    Offensive Clinic

Hitters will participate in a variety of offensive drills:

    • Dry Swings – mechanics review and instruction
    • Tee and Soft Toss
    • Short Toss

Following the offensive clinic, players will participate in batting practice. During which they will be evaluated in the following categories:

    • Swing Mechanics
    • Hitting Accuracy
    • Hitting Power

Coaches will record scores and notes to be discussed during their one-on-one consultation on the second day.

Players will be scored in each category on a scale of 1-10:

    • 1-2 – insufficient capability
    • 3-4 – needs improvement
    • 5-6 – D3 hopeful
    • 7-8 – D2 or D3 capable
    • 9 – D1 or D2 capable
    • 10 – D1 ready

    The College Exposure Process

At the end of Day 1, coaches and EXACT staff will lecture players and parents about the process of collegiate recruiting. They will cover:

    • Division I, II, III recruiting process
    • Scholarships
    • Walking-on
    • Networking, Exposure, etc.

Coaches and staff will also field any and all questions regarding the collegiate recruiting process from all players and parents.

    DAY 2

    Warm-Up

    Mental Performance Discussion

After the Day 2 warm-up and prior to the first set of games for the day, players will meet once again with EXACT’s Mental Training Staff to review new concepts and apply them to specific circumstances.   This session ensures that key training techniques are remembered after the camp.

Furthermore, EXACT’s staff will reinforce and demonstrate with the players how to take the mental training concepts and implement them immediately during the camp.

    Game 1 (Team A v C)

Players will be divided into teams and encouraged to implement their mental training into a game scenario and focus on the fundamentals of the game. Each player is given essentially the same number of reps. Position players will all get the opportunity to both bat and play the field. Pitchers and catchers will each have the opportunity to pitch/catch approximately two innings.

    Lunch

    Game 2 (Team B v D)

    Individual Consultation w/ Players

At the culmination of Day 2 players will be given the opportunity to sit down 1 on 1 with a college coach to ask any questions they may have and discuss their showcase results, getting personalized training and performance tips on how to reach the next stage of their baseball career.
