Anthony Szymel is currently at Aurora University as a volunteer assistant coach as well as the Director of Goalkeeping at Campton United S.C. Most recently he was at DePaul University where he was the assistant mens soccer coach for 3 ½ years and specialized in developing the goalkeepers. Mack Robinson was second in the BIG EAST and No. 37 in the country in saves in 2014.
Before his tenure at DePaul, Szymel spent four seasons at NCAA Division II national champion Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. He was a graduate assistant coach the first two seasons and first assistant coach since 2012. As the goalkeeper coach at Lynn, Szymel helped Matt DiCerbo become a Daktronics First Team All-American and was instrumental in helping guide the Fighting Knights to the 2012 national title and a national runner-up finish in 2011.
After starring at Naperville North High School, the standout goalkeeper led Lewis University to a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and led the nation as a senior in save percentage. That season, Lewis went 14-1-4 and advanced to the NCAA Midwest Region finals. As a senior, Szymel was named as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Second Team Scholar All-American.
Quite the decorated athlete, both on and off the field, Szymel earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Academic honors all four years and was twice named to the CoSIDA / ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team. Szymel was also a three-time All-GLVC selection and two-time all-region pick.
A four-year letter winner and three-year starter (2006-08) at Lewis, Szymel compiled a career record of 40-13-4, 0.78 goals-against average, 201 saves, .817 save percentage and 21 shutouts. His best season came as a senior when he led all of NCAA Division II with a .885 save percentage and was fourth with a 0.52 GAA.
Szymel has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Lewis and a master's degree in Business Administration from Lynn.
