Playing Career   After becoming a two-time All American at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, Heinemann signed his first professional contract with the Charleston Battery (South Carolina) of the USL (3rd Division) in 2009.   Scoring one goal in his rookie year, Heinemann made his splash in 2010, where he scored 8 goals and recorded 5 assists.  Charleston won the league that year and would go on to win the USL Championship, Heinemann being named MVP.   A few weeks after winning the championship with Charleston, he signed a short-term contract with the Carolina Railhawks (North Carolina) of the NASL (2nd Division).  He scored 6 goals in 12 appearances with the club, leading them to the NASL Championship game. At the beginning of 2011, Heinemann signed his first MLS (1st Division) contract with the Columbus Crew.  Scoring three goals and adding one assist in his first year with the club, Heinemann helped Columbus reach the MLS Playoffs.  The following year, he suffered a major knee injury that would sideline him for the entire 2012.    Heinemann was highly committed to his rehab and recovery process during the entire 2012 season, however, Columbus declined to bring the big striker back for the 2013 season.  It was then that the Vancouver Whitecaps claimed Heinemann off waivers and signed him for the 2013 season.  Heinemann would reunite with his former coach, Martin Rennie, of the Carolina Railhawks where he played in 2010. He was primarily used off the bench in 2013 for the Whitecaps registering 2 goals.   Heinemann then got picked up by the Ottawa Fury FC of the NASL (North American Soccer League), which is in the second division of the North American soccer pyramid.   While in Ottawa, the Fury FC won the Fall Championship in 2015, and then went on to play in the final of the NASL Championship, taking second place.  Heinemann was the leading goal scorer with a total of 18 goals in 2015.  He also won Ottawa Fury's Golden Boot award. In 2016, Heinemann signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the NASL (North American Soccer League. In 2017, Tom took the field for the San Francisco Deltas. 2017 was a year to remember for Heinemann and the Deltas. Heinemann played for Penn FC in the USL during the 2018 season, before joining the coaching staff at Yale University.                Coaching Career   Heinemann began coaching at age 11 when he founded Heinemann Soccer. He has gone on to coach camps and clinics of all ages in St. Louis, Charleston, Columbus and Vancouver. Notably, Heinemann coached for the Columbus Crew Pre-Academy in 2012, training the top 99 and 00 classes of the Crew SC Development Academy.  Following his move to Vancouver in 2013, Heinemann was an assistant coach at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC.  Tom most recently served as an assistant coach at Yale University in 2018 before joiningg David Costa's staff at Belmont University as an assistant coach in 2019. Tom is the co-founder of the USL Players Association, where he is a current member of the Executive Committee. He also served as advisory staff and board member for Ambassadors Football Club in St. Louis, MO from 2016-2019. Heinemann holds his United States Soccer Federation B Coaching License.
