Former Birmingham-Southern College standout Joe Nasco was named assistant men's soccer coach on May 5, 2016.
In his inaugural season, Panther goalkeepers earned a 1.21 goals against average and improved that number in year two with a 1.15 goals against average. Starter Galen Curry has earned all-conference honors in two years under Nasco.
Nasco played on the Hilltop from 2005-07, and was a Big South All-Conference selection in 2005 and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Region selection in 2007. His BSC campaign was prefaced by two seasons at Andrew Junior College where he was an All-America selection.
Nasco played professionally after BSC in the North American Soccer League with the Atlanta Silverbacks (2012, 2013). In 2013, Nasco helped Atlanta win the Spring Championship and a place in the NASL championship game. He was also selected to the NASL Best XI team for his play that season. His biggest signing was with the Major League Soccer Colorado Rapids in 2014. Nasco then joined the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers, also of the NASL, in 2015.
In the fall of 2016, he was inducted into the BSC Sports Hall of Fame.
