As Director of Analytics, Alex Fairchild assists the men's soccer coaching staff with opposition scouting, post match analysis, set piece strategy, and coaching development projects. Fairchild works full-time as an analyst for StatDNA, the analytics arm of Arsenal FC of the English Premier League. Based in Boston, he evaluates professional players through the use of cutting-edge statistics and video review. He assesses the player's strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies in both the attacking and defensive phases of play. His analysis is used to aid the club in its transfer decision making process and opposition analysis. During his time as an undergraduate at Boston College, Fairchild served as the mens soccer team's student manager during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.  Responsible for video and statistical analysis and scouting upcoming opponents, he also assisted the coaching staff with day-to-day operations, camps and travel.  His innovative use of analytics helped the Eagles back to the NCAA tournament after a two-year absence.  In 2015, he contributed to wins over No. 10 Virginia and No. 12 Syracuse and the program's Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA tournament. For his contributions, Fairchild was recognized by Boston College Athletics with the Unsung Hero Award, which is presented at the annual Boston College Athletics Department awards ceremony to a member of the Athletics community, whose efforts toward, and passion for, the program go above and beyond. In addition to his time at the Heights and StatDNA, Fairchild has broad global soccer experience. As early as 2011, he was analyzing international soccer games on a weekly basis for several international soccer websites. He has spent the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Major League Soccer seasons in the United States supporting the New England Revolution television broadcast team of Brad Feldman and Paul Mariner with pre-game scouting reports and in-game statistics.   Additionally, he co-authored with Konstantinos Pelechrinis of the University of Pittsburgh and Marios Kokkodis of Boston College, Spatial Analysis of Shots in the MLS: A Model of Expected Goals and Fractal Dimensionality, which was published in the Journal of Sports Analytics in 2018. Fairchild graduated magma cum laude from Boston College's Carroll School of Management with a degree in Finance and Business Analytics in 2017. He also attended Boston College High School and played three seasons of varsity soccer under head coach Billy Ryan.
