Georgia College Director of Athletics Wendell Staton announced the appointment of Kane Keith to Interim Head Coach for Bobcat Baseball June 1. The change comes after the departure of head coach Jason Eller after four years at the helm. I am very appreciative and excited that Kane Keith has accepted the role of Interim Head Baseball Coach at Georgia College, Staton said. Kane is an extremely positive and authentic leader with outstanding character and integrity beyond reproach. His positive and caring attitude has earned him the utmost respect from our entire staff and student-athletes and his leadership will continue the focus on our outstanding student-athlete experience. Kane has been critical to the holistic success within our baseball program and our department. I am very pleased that he has moved into this role want to thank him for his leadership moving forward. Keith has spent three seasons on the coaching staff for GC Baseball, primarily working with the pitchers. "I would like to thank Wendell, [Vice President for Student Affairs] Dr. Shawn Brooks, and [University President] Dr. Steve Dorman for this opportunity to serve in such a significant role as Interim Head Coach for our Baseball program that represents this Athletic Department and University, Keith said. It is an honor to use this platform to demonstrate the passion I have for positively impacting our student-athletes with a holistic experience during their time here at Georgia College. I greatly appreciate the support from all of our administrators and staff, my family, and friends. I could not be more excited to continue the great leadership that our student-athletes have previously been under at Georgia College. I am grateful to Coach Eller for all that he taught me both as a player and Coach. I look forward to overseeing our program at a high level academically and athletically."  Keith made an impact with the pitching staff, as 2020 was shaping up to be one of the top seasons on the mound in Bobcat history. GC went 13-2 in the virus-shortened effort, boasting a 3.84 ERA, the best team average since 2007. He was also working closely with the pitchers for the stellar 2018 season for Charlie Hecht, who dealt his way to All-America, Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Pitcher of the Year, and Region Pitcher of the Year honors. A Bobcat alum as a pitcher himself, Keith was a two-time PBC Scholar-Athlete, going 5-0 with a 4.50 ERA in his senior season. The lefty tossed a seven-inning gem in the 2017 PBC Championship game, a 6-5 win over UNC Pembroke. During Keiths five seasons with the Bobcat Baseball program, GC won the PBC Regular-Season title once, and the PBC Tournament two times. GC Baseball is a bit of a family affair for Keith, as his brother Perry was also a reliever for three seasons for the Bobcats.
