Zach Barnes joins the 2018 mens soccer coaching staff for his first season with the program. He will work under Neil Jones as the volunteer assistant coach.   Barnes most recent coaching experience came at his alma mater, Creighton, where he served as a graduate assistant. In his two years in that position, the Bluejays posted a 22-14-5 record that consequently saw the squad appear in the NCAA Tournament both seasons.   Barnes played collegiately for Creighton during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, and in the process claimed a spot on the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Third Team as a midfielder during his senior season. He also served as a captain on the 2013 team and earned All-BIG EAST First-Team recognition while starting every match for the Bluejays.       Following his final season as a collegiate player, Barnes was drafted in the third round (56th overall) of 2014 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by D.C. United.      Barnes also played every match for the Bluejays in 2012 and played a pivotal role in the teams second consecutive appearance in the College Cup that season. Thanks to his on-field production, he earned a spot on the Ameritas Classic and Creighton Invitational All-Tournament teams during his first season in Omaha. He recorded 15 shots while playing the second-most minutes of any player on the roster and was a stalwart at midfield in the Bluejays trip to the College Cup in Hoover, Ala.      The Flower Mound, Texas native, spent his first two collegiate seasons at SMU. He scored five goals during his freshman season while in Dallas.
