Marcelo Campolina is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach with the Midwestern State mens soccer program as the team's goalkeeping coach.
Campolina helped the Mustangs to their sixth NCAA quarterfinal appearance and first-ever Heartland Conference regular season title in 2016 with an 18-4-1 record. MSU recorded 12 shutouts on the season to tie for the fourth most in NCAA Division II while tying for the third highest in school history. The Mustangs posted a 0.65 goals against average for ninth in Division II while ranking fifth in the program record books.
Under the guidance of Campolina, senior goalkeeper Noah Fazekas set a new single-season program record of 18 wins in 2016 while tying for first in the record books with 11 clean sheets in his final campaign. Campolina helped Fazekas to D2CCA All-South Central Region Second Team honors, ranking in the top 15 nationally with a .667 goals against average and in the top 25 with a .800 save percentage in 2016. Fazekas finished his career ranked third in goals against average (0.63) and wins (26) and fifth in shutouts (14.1).
In his first season with the Mustangs, Campolina helped MSU to a historic 2015 season. Midwestern State compiled a 17-1-1 overall record and advanced to the NCAA South Central Region final following an undefeated regular season, the third in school history. In the national rankings, the Mustangs totaled eight consecutive weeks in the top three while spending one week at No. 1, becoming the nation's top-ranked team for the fifth time in program history and first since the 2008 season.
Campolina coached keepers Brice Gardner, Noah Fazekas and Richard Goss to a 0.93 goals against average and eight shutouts to rank in the top 30 in NCAA Division II in 2015.
Prior to his time in Wichita Falls, Campolina served as a goalkeeper coach at the Associação Atletica Do Banco Do Brasil (A.A.B.B.) in Brasilia, Brazil, in 2014-15 after spending one year as a head futsal coach and owner for Field Day Educação e Esportes in Brasilia.
In January of 2011, Campolina became the head soccer coach for the Brasilia International School, a position he held for seven months after spending over three years as the head soccer and futsal coach for the American School of Brasilia.
While working with the American School of Brasilia, Campolina was in charge of the boys and girls junior varsity program, leading the boys team to a third-place finish at the national championships in 2010.
Campolina also served as an assistant volleyball, softball and soccer coach in his stint at the American School of Brasilia. While there, he helped the boys and girls volleyball teams to three-straight national championships from 2008-10, the softball team to a third-place finish in 2010 and the boys soccer team to a fourth-place showing in 2007.
The Formosa, Goiás, Brazil native began his career at the São Paulo Futebol Center in Brasilia, Brazil, in May 2005, serving as the head coach for the U13 and U15 boys soccer programs and womens program. In 2006, Campolina helped the womens team to a national championship, while guiding the U13 squad to a national title and the U15 team to a third-place finish in 2007. He also spent time coaching goalkeepers for the boys, girls and womens programs.
Prior to coaching, Campolina spent two seasons playing professional soccer for Samabaia Futebol Clube (1999) and Sociedade Esportiva do Gama (2000) in Brazil.
Campolina earned his bachelors degree in Physical Education from Catholic University of Brasilia and is currently pursuing a masters in Exercise Physiology at Midwestern State.
