Head Women's Soccer Coach
Montreat College

Tina Murphy begins her first season at the helm of the Cavalier women's soccer program.

"I look forward to coming alongside the student-athletes at Montreat College, helping to develop them into good leaders in the classroom, on the field and in the world, as we seek to honor God to our fullest abilities, using every gift and talent He has provided to each of us," said Murphy.

Prior to coming to Montreat, Murphy was a coach for NCFC Youth, the largest youth-to-pro model club in the United States. NCFC is comprised of a 1st Division women's professional team, a 2nd division professional men's team, and a youth program that boasts a nearly 14,000 player pool. She also served on the coaching staff of Liberty University from 2012 to 2014.

As a player, Murphy enjoyed an illustrious professional career that included time overseas competing for the Brazilian 1st Division team, Ferroviária Futebol Clube, and Brazil's Santo Futebol Clube. Murphy also spent time playing professionally in England for the 1st Division Bristol Academy Football Club. When not playing soccer abroad, Murphy was in the States competing for the Charlotte Lady Eagles of the W-League from 2001-2008. She was named Charlotte's captain in her first year with the club and retained the role until retirement. Twice Murphy was named All W-League and she is the Eagles' all-time leading goal scorer and points leader.

"I'm thrilled to welcome someone of Coach Murphy's caliber to our Cavalier family," said Montreat athletic director Jose Larios. "Tina brings with her a remarkable playing history and head coaching experience at the highest level. Her leadership qualities, life experiences, pursuit of championship-caliber soccer, enveloped by her heart for our Christ-centered mission made Coach Murphy stand out above our other candidates. And her recruiting ties to some of the nation's most robust and competitive soccer clubs will undoubtedly serve our future Cavalier teams well."

Murphy holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "C" Coaching License as well as a USSF Goalkeeper Certificate.

In addition to her professional career, Murphy enjoyed a stellar undergraduate career at The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. During her time with the Tar Heels, the team won four national championships. She was a member of the U20 women's national team pool and was named to the ACC honor roll and dean's list while an undergraduate.

While attending Walter Panas High School in Cortlandt, New York, Murphy was named to the Parade All-American team and was rated of one of the top five defenders in the country as a senior. She was the team's captain and the only women's soccer player to have her school jersey retired. Murphy is also the school's all-time leading scorer.
