Petrut Bumbanac begins his first season on the mens soccer coaching staff at Stetson. He comes to DeLand after three seasons as head coach at Cayuga Community College in Auburn, N.Y.   In three seasons with the Spartans, Bumbanac led CCC to a 34-12-1 record, reaching post-season play three times.   The 2017 squad was Bumbancs best. The Spartans not only finished the year as regional runners-up, but they also boasted six all-region players, five all-conference honorees and two All-Americans. Additionally, Cayuga enjoyed one of the biggest upsets of the year in NJCAA soccer when they knocked off No. 1 Herkimer College, 3-2, on the road.   A native of Romania, Bumbanac came to the States as a college player in the summer of 2000, attending Bryant & Stratton College in Syracuse, N.Y. During his two years there, Bumbanac won a NJCAA National Championship in 2001, after being a runner-up the previous year.   Bumbanac moved on from Bryant & Stratton to VCU in 2002, where he helped the Rams to a Colonial Athletic Association championship and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.   Bumbanac was also a member of the U-15, U-16 and U-17 Romanian National Team, before coming to the U.S.   Bumbanac started his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Bryant & Stratton in 2011. During his time with the Bobcats, he helped the team to a 2011, 2012, and 2013 NJCAA Region III championships and Western New York Athletic Conference titles. He has coached a number of All-American and All-Region players, and in 2014 he helped the program to a USCAA National Tournament semifinal.   Bumbanac also coached youth soccer in the Syracuse area for 12 years. Bumbanac holds a National Coaching License from USSF, and is certified in Fitness and Conditioning for Soccer by the International Coaches Association. Bumbanac holds a Masters Degree in Business Management from Keuka College.
