Fred Lin joined the UC Santa Cruz volleyball staff in August 2017 as an assistant coach. His primary responsibilities include aiding in all aspects of student-athlete development, practice planning, scouting and analysis. Lin is also primary responsible for training setters, middle hitters and transition offense .

Lin brought over 25 years of volleyball coaching experience to Santa Cruz. He started his career first as a player-coach then served as the head coach for University of Michigan for both men's and women's club volleyball teams. Lin simultaneously working as an assistant coach with the Wolverines womens volleyball team in between 1984 - 1989. Lin later coached at Hillsdale College, Eastern Kentucky University and Villanova University throughout the 1990's

Lin enjoys players development and worked as a director of  a small volleyball club in Southern California in mid 1990's. He helped to develop junior talents into collegiate athletes despite the size of the club. In 1998, Lin moved to Northern California to worked in the software industry while still helping many local club athletes with college recruiting. Prior to Santa Cruz, Lin assisted in the founding of Encore Volleyball Cub of Redwood City and served as one of its directors. After taking Slug's coaching position, Lin joined City Beach Volleyball Club as one of its roaming instructor.

Aside from volleyball, Lin enjoys running and traveling, He currently resides in Palo Alto.
