After spending two seasons with the Purple Aces as a graduate assistant coach, Declan Doherty was elevated to women's soccer assistant coach on May 9, 2018. "I am absolutely thrilled to have been given this opportunity to continue my coaching development here at such a great program, with some of the best people in collegiate athletics," said Doherty. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my last two years here and am extremely grateful to Coach McKendree and Coach Williams for all of their guidance and support during that period. I have loved every minute of working with the exceptional young women that make up our program and am thrilled to be able to continue the work we have started up to this point, and am excited to see the heights this group can reach." After helping the Buffalo men's program achieve a berth into the Mid-American Conference championship match last November, Declan Doherty was named to the University of Evansville women's soccer staff on Aug. 1, 2016. Doherty, a native of Belfast, Northern Ireland, spent one season with the Bulls, helping the team post an 8-7-4 overall record, which marked the first winning season for UB since 2008. "I'm excited about bringing in a coach with the kind of character, work ethic and values that Declan has," UE head coach Krista McKendree said. "I think he's going to bring a different perspective for us with the depth of his experience at different levels. He also offers a lot of versatility for us, and he's going to be able to work with both the field players and the goalkeepers." Prior to joining UB, Doherty spent one season as the head coach and marketing director for the New York branch of Global Premier Soccer, an organization that is comprised of 18 clubs around the country. In his time with GPS, he coached three teams, guiding two of them to league championships. In that time, Doherty also assisted at Lancaster High School and served as the head coach of a junior varsity side that posted a 15-0-1 record. Before moving to America, Doherty was the head coach of the Ulster University Jordanstown women's team in his native country, leading the squad to a 7-3-1 overall record and a National League championship in 2013. After that, he moved on to an assistant role with the Queens University Belfast men's team, helping the squad post a 19-5-6 record in the process. Doherty, who also played for Rosario Youth Football Club before pursuing a coaching career, graduated from Ulster Jordanstown in 2013 with a degree in sport and exercise science.
