Gene Bushey joined the UVM womens soccer program as a volunteer assistant coach in August 2018. His primary duties will including working with the Catamount goalkeepers. The 2018 Cats made their fourth straight trip to the America East Tournament - a first for the program. The four victories during the league slate matched the most during her eight-year tenure. UVM had one of the top defenses in America East and surrendered the third-fewest goals (22) and recorded the third-best goals-against average (1.22). At season's end, the Catamounts were represented by seniors Brooke Jenkins and Casey Garfinkel on the All-Conference Second Team and All-Academic Team while freshman Alyssa Oviedo landed on the All-Rookie Team.    Prior to joining the Catamounts, he spent four seasons as the goalkeeper coach at Plattsburgh State where he assisted all facets of the program including recruiting, training and development of goalkeepers, game preparation, and opponent scouting.   During his four years at Plattsburgh, Busheys impact was felt on the defensive end. In 2014, the Cardinals recorded a 0.86 goals-against average. Bushey was instrumental in the development of senior goaltender Danielle Schmitt who received NSCAA First Team All-East Region and SUNYAC First Team All-Conference honors. In 2015, Bushey developed freshman goaltender Nichole Gibson into becoming a three-time SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week pick, which was tied for most in the league. Before Plattsburgh, he was the head mens soccer coach at Clinton Community College. Before becoming head coach, he was an assistant coach at CCC. His coaching and leadership efforts developed Travis Agony into a Player of the Week selection in the NJCAA Conference.   Bushey is certified as an advanced national goalkeeper coach and he recently received his Diversity & Inclusion certification through United Soccer Coaches, formerly known as the NSCAA. He is also involved in the Super Y League/Regional Scouting Series as a goalkeeper coach.
