After a decorated career as a student-athlete, former Belmont University men’s soccer defender Anthony Torres is returning to the sidelines as an assistant coach, Head Coach Bryan Green announced Thursday morning.
“We are thrilled to be able to keep Anthony in an everyday role as part of our program. His leadership and play was integral in our evolution and development as a team, and having him back as a coach will aid us in our continual evolution and improvement as a program. Having such a high level player less than a year after he was wearing the Belmont uniform will be a great asset to our young team,” said Green.
The former defensive stalwart will work with the backline of the Bruin team, as well as help the new players acclimate to college soccer and the Bruin style of play. Torres, a four-year letter winner in Nashville, started over 50 games during his tenure as a Bruin. After a strong three seasons, the defender put together his best all-around campaign as senior in 2015 as he earned Second Team All-Horizon League Team honors.

State and Milwaukee, ranked second on the club with 1,731 minutes played a year ago. Serving as a team captain, Torres provided a veteran presence to an otherwise young team, leading the unit on and off the pitch.
