Bill Swartz has been the men’s soccer coach at Pomona-Pitzer for 28 years, since first taking over the helm in 1986, and has led the Sagehens to seven SCIAC titles. Recently, he led Pomona-Pitzer to a SCIAC championship in 2012, took a sabbatical in 2013 to coach with the Tottenham Hotspur organization in England, and returned in 2014 to lead the Sagehens to a SCIAC Postseason Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament bid, while earning the league Coach of the Year honors.
During his 28 years as the head coach of the Sagehens, Swartz’s programs have been a model of consistency. Pomona-Pitzer has reached 10 wins or more 18 times in that span, and have finished .500 or better 22 times (including 21 in the last 24 years). His career record now stands at 293-199-22.
While with Tottenham in 2013, Swartz served as the Academy Development Officer and worked with the Spurs youth program (coaching 12-21 year olds), as well as supporting the scholar division (17-21 years of age) in their development beyond soccer. He served in an advisory role to younger members of the coaching staff, and conducted coaching research through Tottenham’s performance analysis department.
