Carlos Ortiz joined Gerson Echeverry’s staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2016 season.
Prior to SHU, Ortiz spend two season as the assistant/goalkeeper coach for Graceland University (NAIA), his alma mater, in Lamoni, Iowa.
Before making his way back to GU, Coach Ortiz was an assistant coach of AOT Trikala 2011 women’s second division team in Greece.
During his player career at Graceland, Ortiz was a two-time Defensive MVP, an All-American and All-HAAC goalkeeper from 2006-2009. In 2006, Ortiz was the starting goalie for the Yellowjackets on a National Championship team.
Aside from his experience at GU, Coach Ortiz has played professionally for MLS team Salt Lake (2009), Costa Rica Club Brujas First Division (2010), Club Deportivo Barrio Mexico First Division (2011) and Clarence United First Division team in Tasmania, Australia (2012).
Ortiz graduated from Graceland University in 2010 with a BS in Physical Education and Health. He received his MS in Sport Psychology and Physical Activity from University of Thessaly Greece.
