Reigning 2014 Northeast Conference (NEC) Head Soccer Coach of the Year, Mike Minelli, has announced the hiring of former University of Tennessee standout Christina Cobb as an assistant coach.

Nicknamed “CC,” Cobb played two seasons at Florida State University (FSU) before completing her education at the University of Tennessee where she competed for the Volunteers in her junior and senior seasons.

During her time at FSU, she was a member of the Seminoles’ 2011 ACC Championship team, where she came up big in the title game against Wake Forest, converting the second penalty kick opportunity in the shootout to give FSU a 2-1 lead en route to claiming its first league title. The Seminoles advanced to the Final Four that season and were ranked in the top five nationally in both of her years in Tallahassee.

The highlight of her Tennessee career came in 2013 when she saw action in 12 games, with four starts, in addition to being the Scholar Athlete Award recipient in 2014.

“I am very happy that CC is joining our coaching staff,” said Minielli, who is entering his ninth year at the helm of the Wagner Program after leading the Seahawks to an appearance in the 2014 NEC Tournament, the program’s first tourney trip since 1997. “She has played at a very high level in Division I and her experience and coaching ability will be a great benefit to our players. CC has the right personality and drive to be a successful coach and we are absolutely looking forward to working with her.”

Cobb, a native of Delray Beach, FL, where she starred at American Heritage High School, brings an experienced coaching resume to Grymes Hill, having served as an assistant at the University of Tennessee Soccer Camp, American Heritage HS, and for the FC Alliance and Grandview Preparatory School. She was also an administrator for the Tennessee Team at the Olympic Development Program.

In addition to her responsibilities with the Seahawk women’s soccer program, Cobb, who earned a bachelor’s degree in 2014 from Tennessee, will pursue her Master’s in Business Administration here at Wagner.

The Green & White will kick off the 2015 season with a 3:00 p.m. scrimmage at Bucknell on August 16.
