Danny Price begins his first year as the head baseball coach at Miami Dade College, a position previously held by such legends as Steve Hertz, Charlie Greene and Demie Mainieri. Price replaces Hertz, who was MDC’s head coach for 26 years and retired after the 2010 season. Price is also a veteran of the dugout, having served as the head coach at Florida International University from 1980 to 2007. During that span, Price compiled a record of 1,086-597 and helped the program grow from Division II to Division I. He was named Trans America Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1991, 1995 and 1998. He led FIU to eight NCAA Division I regionals, accomplishing the feat six times in his last 11 years at the school. Price, who has coached numerous players who went on to pro baseball, including big-league star Mike Lowell, was a hit from his first season at FIU. Price led FIU to fourth place in the 1980 Division II World Series.
