Drew Rea (pronounced “RAY”) returns to the CSUDH men’s soccer sidelines for his 10th season after enjoying a three-year career at former CCAA-rival Cal State Bakersfield and making his debut on the coaching sidelines in 2006. Rea serves as the recruiting coordinator for the Toros.
In addition to his on-the-field coaching duties which was instrumental in helping the Toro men claim the 2008 NCAA National Championship and the Toro women reach the 2009 NCAA Championship game.
As a ‘Runner, Rea was named a 1st-team NSCAA/adidas All-American as a senior, a 2nd-team All-American as a junior, and both a three-time 1st-team All-Far West Region and 1st-team All-CCAA honoree. Making 61 starts in 61 games played, Rea concluded his three-year career with 16 goals and seven assists (39 points) despite playing almost exclusively from the back line.
After his college days, Rea played professional soccer in Ireland for Glentoran from 2004-06 until a torn ACL/MCL ended his career.
An ardent supporter of European Champions Manchester United, the Long Beach resident was born on March 19. Rea is also involved in the youth soccer community, coaching two teams at the Beach FC Youth Soccer Club and is also the head coach of the Windward High School girls soccer team in Santa Monica.
Rea is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Sports Administration with an anticipated graduation day in February 2017.
