Erica Mastrogiacomo Schuling enters her seventh year as Simmons’s Head Soccer Coach and Camp Director. In the 2012 season, Mastrogiacomo Schuling led the Sharks to an 11-9-1 overall record and a berth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship game. The Sharks’ 2009 campaign included a Great Northeast Athletic Conference title and an NCAA Division III tournament appearance. Her peers selected Mastrogiacomo Schuling as the 2009 GNAC Coach of the Year.
Since taking over in 2006, ten student athletes have garnered all-conference accolades under the direction of Coach Mastrogiacomo Schuling including the 2009 GNAC Rookie of the Year. Five members of the 2009 squad were named to the All-Tournament team including the GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Prior to being named head coach, Mastrogiacomo Schuling served as an assistant coach for two seasons. During that span, Simmons went 28-4-1, won the GNAC tournament championship in 2004, the regular season crown in 2005 and made Simmons’ first-ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance in any sport.
A four-year starter at Syracuse University from 2000-03, Mastrogiacomo Schuling made 64 career starts for the Orange and scored six goals from her midfield position. A two-year captain, she ended her career tied for ninth on the program’s all-time assist list. Mastrogiacomo Schuling, who was a Big East Conference academic all-star each of her eight semesters at Syracuse, received the Verhulst Sportswoman of the Year Award in 2003. The award is given to the SU athlete that best exhibits sportsmanship, leadership and attitude on the field.
