retchen Krumdiek will be entering into her fifth season as the Bobcat Volleyball program’s first head coach.
In 2016, the Bobcats went 17-14 for the program’s first winning season, in a year featuring two four-match win streaks. The Bobcats cracked the NCAA Regional Rankings for the first time as well, reaching as high as No. 9. GC Volleyball won the PBC Sportsmanship Award, and Katie Ray picked up the Elite-15 Award, both firsts in program history.
The 2015 campaign was a breakthrough one for Bobcat Volleyball, as Georgia College checked off a number of “firsts” in program history. The Bobcats made their first appearance in the PBC Tournament, eclipsed double-digit victories for the first time, nabbed their first PBC road victory, and picked up their first PBC season series sweep. The 2015 squad was second in the PBC in blocks per set at 2.08 and fourth in digs per set at 16.97. Taylor Svehla also was named the second PBC Freshman of the Year in school history.
Krumdiek made her way into the history books at Georgia College on Sept. 5, 2013 by coaching her team against Fort Valley State University in the sport’s inaugural season. The Bobcats recorded their first victory by sweeping Fort Valley 25-4, 25-20, and 25-15 in front of over 2,500 rabid Bobcat fans.
During her first season, Krumdieck had a player receive conference recognition, as Rachel Reynolds was awarded the Peach Belt Freshman of the Year. The Bobcats finished their inaugural season 6-23 overall and 2-16 in the Peach Belt.
The squad improved in its sophomore season, notching one more win at 7-20 overall including conference victories over Columbus State and UNC Pembroke. Bailey Freeman was the conference leader in blocks per set at 1.14.
The Georgia College volleyball team has made a statement about reaching out to the local community. During the season the team hosted events during matches such as a “White-Out to Wipe Out Cancer”, Make-A-Wish raffles, “Stand Up To Hunger” night, and a salute to all servicemen. Not only did the team host theme nights for their matches but they have been involved in holding camps for kids in the community to come meet the team, learn volleyball skills, and have fun.
Prior to taking the helm at Georgia College, Krumdieck spent three seasons as the assistant coach for the Division I Davidson Wildcats. During the 2010 campaign, she stepped in as Interim Head Coach and led the ‘Cats to a 16-18 record and fourth place finish in the South Division of the Southern Conference. Her main duties as an assistant included helping with practice and match preparation, team travel, scouting opponents, coordinating special projects and serving as assistant camp director.
Before Davidson, Krumdieck served as the assistant coach at the University of Buffalo in 2009 and spent the 2007-08 seasons at High Point University. She helped lead the Panthers to a 24-7 record in 2007, finishing third in the Big South Conference. The team also set school records for most wins, best winning percentage and most consecutive wins. At High Point, Krumdieck handled daily on-court instruction duties during the season and also assisted in recruiting.
Krumdieck graduated in 2003 from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, W.Va. with a B.A. in elementary education. She helped lead her team to two West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Regular-Season Championships and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. In 2000, Krumdieck was named WVIAC Player of the Year, WVIAC Tournament MVP, AVCA Great Lakes Region All-Region and AVCA All-American Honorable Mention. Krumdieck is also working toward her Master’s from Duquesne University.
