Gus Mota enters his third season with the Pride as the head women’s soccer coach in 2017. He came to the Pride after spending time as an assistant and recruiting coordinator at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
In addition to his time at Sam Houston State, Mota made stops at Southeastern Louisiana University, South Carolina University, and Southern Wesleyan University, where he also served as recruiting coordinator, combining for over 10 years of experience. During his tenure as a recruiter, Mota has been credited with recruiting six all-conference performers and four all-region members.
In his first season at Greensboro College, Mota coached the Pride to a 10-8-1 record, while going 5-6-1 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The 2015 season started out with a bang as the Pride established a 5-1 start, which ranks as the best six-game start in program history. At the conclusion of the season, Mota had three players named to the all-conference teams.
His ability to recruit then took notice in his second year with the Pride. Mota recruited 16 freshmen that helped the Pride to a record setting year. Mota’s team recorded yet another double-digit win total as they posted a 10-7-3 overall mark, while going 5-6-3 in USA South Athletic Conference play before recording the program’s first conference tournament victory in six seasons.
