Hired as Head Coach in 1996, Joe Behan has led the New York University men’s soccer program to its first three appearances in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship and to its first University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.

Now in his 18th year at NYU, Behan has been at the helm of the Violets’ resurgence on the men’s soccer pitch, leading the program to its loftiest heights ever and to a 157-130-31 (.542) overall record. He has guided NYU to nine postseason appearances, including a berth in the NCAA Division III Final Four in 2006, the program’s first-ever national tournament appearance since joining the Division III ranks in 1982.

The Violets then made return trips to the NCAA’s in 2007 and 2010, with their first UAA Championship coming in a record-setting 2010 season.

Last season, Behan led NYU to its best start in program history (9-0) en route to ending the season as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Champions. The ECAC title was the second in school history, with the first coming in 2001.

The Violets were unbeatable in the first half of 2012, and their hot start helped them climb as high as #6 in the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America)/Continental Tire Division III national rankings. The Violets finished the campaign with an overall 12-7-2 record, including a 2-4-1 mark in the UAA
