John Powell, a Warrior from 2008 to 2010, joined the men’s soccer coaching staff in 2013 as Dana Taylor’s first assistant. Most recently, Powell helped lead the program to the 2014 CCAA Championship match where the Warriors lost in a penalty shootout to number eight ranked Cal Poly Pomona.

Powell has had a distinctive career with Cal State Stanislaus in that he has, both as a player and a coach, helped rewrite the record books since joining the program. Upon graduation, Powell previously served as an assistant coach on the 2011 CCAA Championship qualifying team.

Since taking over as the first assistant at Cal State Stanislaus, Powell serves as the lead recruiter for Coach Taylor, identifying potential collegiate players and establishing valuable relationships at all levels: top club teams in the area, junior colleges, and other college programs. Powell also serves as the coordinator for the academic piece for Men’s Soccer and works with players on an individual level throughout the year.

Powell currently holds his NSCAA National Diploma and has extended his soccer resume by serving as the referee assignor for both Turlock Football Club and Earthquakes- East Valley. Powell, a Modesto native, was a 2006 graduate of Beyer High School and currently lives in Turlock.
