John Schmidt will be entering his third season as the top assistant coach for the Belmont University Volleyball team.
Schmidt has nearly two decades of volleyball coaching experience. He spent the past three years as development coordinator and coach at Willowbrook Volleyball Club in Houston, Texas.
Prior to his time in “H-Town,” Schmidt spent two years serving as assistant director, coach and head trainer at Nebraska Volleyball Academy in Lincoln. Schmidt also served as volleyball venue director for the Special Olympics National Games.
Schmidt spent four seasons as the head coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Inheriting a program in transition, the Warhawks saw marked improvement in every academic metric during Schmidt’s tenure – raising the program’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) multi-year score by 116 points and overall team grade-point average from 2.1 to 3.0.
The Baytown, Texas native earned his bachelor of arts degree in mass communications with a minor in exercise and sport science from Southwest Texas State in 1997.
