A familiar face returned to the LMU women’s soccer program as former Lion Joslyn (Slovek) Shoop rejoined the Lion coaching staff as an assistant coach at the beginning of the 2009 season. Slovek, a two-time First Team All-West Coast Conference goalkeeper, has assumed goalkeeper coaching duties as well as assisting in all other areas of the program. Shoop was one of the best goalkeepers to ever come through LMU and holds the top-two single-season goals-against-averages in program history. A three-year starter, Shoop made 64 appearances in the LMU uniform, finishing her career with a 0.89 GAA, 30 wins, and 28 shutouts, all three of which rank second on the career charts. In her first season as a starter, 2005, Shoop recorded eight shutouts with a 1.27 GAA. The next year, she helped lead the Lions to their second-ever postseason appearance, registering 84 saves, 8.5 shutouts, and a new school-record GAA of 0.70. Her performances earned her the WCC Defender of the Year award as well as first team All-WCC honors. In January 2007, she was invited to the US Under-21 National Team training camp. Back at school in 2007, she capped her career by tying the school record with 12 victories, 10 via shutout, adding 71 saves and a 0.72 GAA, and was again a First Team All-Conference selection while serving as team co-captain.
