Mike DeMara enters his first season as assistant coach at UNCG on Justin Maullin’s staff. DeMara spent the past season as the Director of Soccer Operations for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Old Dominion.
Prior to ODU, DeMara spent two years as an assistant soccer coach at Methodist University. In two seasons at Methodist, he helped the program to a 24-10-3 overall record and a 15-3-1 conference mark. Methodist won the 2013 USA South regular season title, while also reaching the conference tournament championship game. He saw his players earn 13 All-Conference accolades, a Conference Player of the Year, a Rookie of the Year and an NSCAA All-Region selection.
DeMara spent three seasons at the University of Great Falls as an assistant coach from 2010-13. In his first season on staff, UGF posted a 16-4-1 record and won its first conference championship. Great Falls made its first-ever NAIA National Tournament appearance that year, beating No. 2 Simon Frasier to reach the Sweet 16. During his second season, UGF compiled a 16-5 record to win its second straight conference championship while also making it back to the Sweet 16.
DeMara, a 2008 graduate of Methodist, spent five years as a player under head coach Justin Terranova. In his final two seasons, he led his team in assists, earning USA South All-Conference honors both years as well as a selection in the 2007 USA South All-Tournament Team. DeMara graduated from Methodist with a Bachelor Degree in business administration with a concentration in sport management.
DeMara also spent time coaching at his alma mater, Great Bridge High School. He has also coached youth teams and camps in Fayetteville, and helped various teams with his former club, Chesapeake United.
DeMara holds a USSF National D coaching license as well as an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
