Michael Hobson is set to begin his first season as an assistant coach of the Bucknell volleyball program. He joins the Bison after spending one season as a graduate assistant coach at Northwest Missouri State, while also serving as an assistant for the U.S. Men’s National Sitting Volleyball Team.

In Hobson’s one season at Northwest Missouri State, the Bearcats finished with a winning record of 15-14. They had four players named to the All-MIAA Team, the program’s most since 1985. In addition to his coaching and recruiting duties, Hobson specialized in video and statistical analysis for the team.

Statistics have been a specialty for Hobson, who began his coaching career as a technical director for the Penn State men’s team in 2013. He spent two seasons with the Nittany Lions. In addition to his statistical and video expertise using Data Volley and Data Video software, Hobson helped with the coordination and running of practices, as well as scouting reports for upcoming opponents.

Since July of 2015, Hobson has been an assistant coach with the U.S. Men’s National Sitting Volleyball Team. He primarily worked with players on blocking and serve receiving. The team traveled to Hangzhou, China to compete in the Intercontinental Cup, and will soon travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the 2016 Summer Paralympics.

Hobson graduated from Penn State with Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology.
