Orlando Cervantes didn’t wait long to make an impact on the Lamar University women’s soccer program
Cervantes, who named Lamar’s head coach on July 16, 2012, led the Cardinals to the best record in their six-year history, guiding Lamar to a second-place finish in the Southland Conference and their first-ever berth in the Southland Conference championship game.
In his first year at Lamar, Cervantes saw the Cardinals post single-season records for wins (11), goals scored (41) and goals-against average (1.37).
Cervantes came to Lamar from Indiana University, where he spent two years as an assistant women’s soccer coach. Prior to his stint at Indiana, he was an assistant coach at Cal Poly, where he helped the Mustangs win a Big West Conference championship.
