Newberry College men’s soccer head coach Bryce Cooper announced the hiring of Reuben Burk as the assistant coach of the program in February of 2017. Reuben comes to Newberry after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. During his two seasons, Burk helped with a variety of duties including daily coaching, game management, recruiting nationally, scouting, helping plan off-season schedules, game day preparations, travel coordination, community service, and helping run the program’s summer camps and clinics.

During the fall 2015 season, Reuben helped oversee a defense that only allowed 14 goals all year which was a program high since 2008. The team also managed an impressive 0.73 goals against average, which was ranked 19th in the nation for Division I and 2nd in the Patriot League in the fall 2015. During this season, Reuben oversaw the goalkeeper training and coached senior goalkeeper Kevin Wright who earned All-Patriot League Second-Team.

In 2016, Burk also helped coach midfielder Yuji Callahan who earned All-Patriot League Third-Team and forward Arno Rupp who earned All-Patriot League Academic Team. At Holy Cross, Reuben took on the role of overseeing all community service initiatives for the program and helped the men’s soccer student-athletes connect with Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and Working for Worcester.

Reuben graduated from Hobart in 2013 with a Bachelors in Anthropology/Sociology and Religious Studies. He then got his Masters in Business Administration from Alfred University in 2015. Reuben holds the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma as well as the USSF D License.
