Sonia Basma begins her second season as a member of the Nichols College women’s soccer program and first as head coach in 2016.
Basma – who graduated from American International College last month – spent the final two years of her collegiate career playing for the Yellow Jackets, where she was named Northeast-10 Player of the Year in 2013 after leading the conference in goals (19), assists (11), and points (49). The Yellow Jackets advanced to the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Semifinal Round by virtue of wins over Bridgeport, Saint Rose, and Slippery Rock, and Basma was named to the All-Tournament Team.
A National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America First Team pick in 2013, Basma played in six games as a senior in 2014 before suffering a season-ending torn ACL.
Basma worked as an instructor at Soccer Shots for three years (2011-13) and has also coached U13 and U16 girls soccer teams at Everton in American Soccer Club. She was also a personal trainer in the AIC Athletics Department (2013-14). Basma has played for the New England Mutiny (2013), Boston Aztecs (2014), and Boston Breakers Reserve of the Women’s Premiere Soccer League (WPSL).
