Mims was appointed as Delaware State’s Women’s Soccer Assistant coach this past summer. Prior to joining the Hornets, she was a three year assistant coach at the Catholic University of America beginning in 2013. While helping Head Coach JP Sousa with day to day operations, Mims also contributed to the programs biggest successes. During her time there, the Cardinals won Landmark Conference championships in 2014 and 2015 as well as receiving an NCAA tournament bid for those seasons. Both years consisted of undefeated Landmark Conference records, first round NCAA tournament wins and Coaching Staff of the Year awards.
“We had some tremendous candidates for this position, and I am really happy with bringing in Taylor,” said Delaware State head soccer coach Kourtney Rhoades. “She’s a great person who fits well with our program. She brings an extensive playing background, and I am excited to see how she will use her experiences to help elevate our players.”
Mims played four years of Division I soccer at Seton Hall University where she appeared in 68 career games with 54 starts as a defender. As a senior, she started in all 19 games in the backfield, helped the Pirates start the year with a five-game winning streak, and posted five shutouts. She was also named a Big East Academic All Star in 2009 and 2011.
While playing collegiately, Mims was a member of the Trinidad & Tobago U17 National Team in 2008 where she started all three games in FIFA U17 World Cup qualifying. She was also called up to the Trinidad & Tobago U20 National Team in 2010, leading her team through the final phase of CONCACAF qualifying before the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. She successfully returned to the playing field in the summer of 2014 with the Washington Spirit Reserves, training with the team throughout the W-League season. That led to her first call-up to the Trinidad & Tobago National Team that August as they won the CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup in preparation for the CONCACAF Women’s Championship held in October. Her second call-up followed in November when she was selected for the Central American & Caribbean Games played in Mexico before the final 2015 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff games against Ecuador.
Mims graduated from Seton Hall University in May of 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature. Originally from Patchogue, N.Y., on Long Island she now lives in Dover, Delaware.
“I am really excited for the opportunity to be a part of a program that has so much potential going forward and that has already achieved a lot of success the past two years,” said Mims upon her appointment.
