James C. Gentle Head Coach [Brian Gill](https://pennathletics.com/staff.aspxstaff=161) has announced the hiring of Dan Scheck as a volunteer assistant coach for the Quakers, focusing on the goalkeeper unit for the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer program. Scheck will join Gill and assistant coaches [Peter Lowry](https://pennathletics.com/staff.aspxstaff=162) and [Jonathan Delano](https://pennathletics.com/staff.aspxstaff=363) for the 2018 season.
"We are really excited to have Dan join our program for this upcoming season. He is a young, ambitious coach who, along with the rest of the coaching staff, will help to further develop the student-athletes in our program here at Penn. On a daily basis, Dan will help assist with all aspects of our program, but will spend a bulk of his time working to develop our goalkeeper corps. Having attended and played his college soccer at nearby Temple, Dan has a good feel for the dynamic here in Philadelphia and has a firm understanding of the Penn community. Two seasons on Ray Reid's staff up at UConn has undoubtedly given him some good insight on how a high level soccer environment functions."
Scheck wrapped up his second season with the Huskies in 2017 as Director of Soccer Quality Control, assisting with ticket sales, match promotions, and fan engagement. Last fall, Scheck's efforts helped aid the Huskies to an average attendance of 3,502, ranking first nationally in average attendance. He served as a goalkeeper for the Temple Owls from 2011-14. A three-year starter, Scheck appeared in 43 games in his Owl career, tallying 16 clean sheets. As a senior in 2014, he started in 16 games en route to a second-team All-American Athletic Conference selection. He enjoyed a breakout junior campaign in 2013, matching the program record with nine shutouts. The Sayville, N.Y. native was named the league's Keeper of the Week on two occasions and held an .859 save percentage in 18 starts.
Tom Bowen joined Andreas Lindberg's staff at The Hall as an assistant coach prior to the 2018 season.
Bowen followed Lindberg to South Orange after spending two years as an assistant coach at LIU Post in 2016 and 2017 posting a 36-2-3 record in 2 seasons as an assistant with the Pioneers. He began his coaching career after a standout playing tenure on the pitch, starring for the Pioneers as team captain under Lindberg from 2013-15. In 60 career games, he had seven goals and five assists for 19 points. Bowen was named to the All-East Coast Conference First Team in 2015.
Bowen holds USSF Coaching Certifications, a B.S. in Sport & Exercise Science and an M.B.A. in Business Administration.

https://dartmouthsports.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/coaches/stewart-flaherty/9376
Scott Krotee wrapped up his fourth season as a volunteer assistant coach on the Saint Josephs mens soccer staff in Fall 2017. Krotees primary responsibility is working with SJUs goalkeepers.
From 2016-17, Krotee coached goalkeeper Greg O'Connell to three Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week honors and two Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week honors in a pair of seasons in which O'Connell recorded nine wins and seven shutouts in 34 appearances. Under Krotee's direction and in just two seasons as SJU's primary goalkeeper, O'Connell broke into SJU's all-time top ten in career goals against average (1.54), career saves (150, through 35 career matches), and career shutouts (7).
From 2014-15, Krotee coached goalkeeper Bobby Edwards to 2014 Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Rookie Team honors, as well as six weekly accolades between the A-10 and Philadelphia Soccer Six. Additionally, Krotee coached O'Connell to Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week honors after the sophomore's first collegiate appearance in 2015.
Previously, Krotee played professionally for four years. In 2015 and 2016, he was ranked among the "Top 100 American Goalkeepers Prospects for the 2018 World Cup."
Most recently, he was the goalkeeper for the Harrisburg Heat out of the Major Arena Soccer League. In 2015-16, he played 10 matches totaling 194 saves in 578:55 for a .721 save percentage. In 2014-15, Krotee played one full match, making 13 saves, before suffering a season-ending injury.
Prior to the Heat, Krotee signed with MLS's Columbus Crew USL Pro affiliate club Dayton Dutch Lions on June 2, 2014 and appeared in one match over the course of that season.
From 2013-14, Krotee competed for the Pennsylvania Roar of the Major Indoor Soccer League. In nine games with the Roar, he posted a .706 save percentage in 346:34 to earn MISL All-Rookie Team accolades.
In 2012, Krotee made appearances with Reading United AC, the MLSs Philadelphia Union player-development partner, in the Premier Development League, with whom he posted a 0.55 goals-against average in 165 minutes in net.
Krotee enjoyed a decorated four-year career as a Division I goalkeeper at Gardner-Webb University from 2008-12. Krotee ranked fifth nationally in total saves (107) and sixth nationally in saves per game (5.94) in his senior season and led the Big South in shutouts as a junior. He graduated with school records for lowest career goals-against average (1.39) and lowest single-season goals-against average (1.10).
A 2012 College Sports Madness All-Big South Preseason Second Team selection, the senior captain was twice named to the Soccer For A Cure All-Tournament Team and earned 2011 Big South Conference Championship All-Tournament Team honors. In 2008, he received the inaugural Wilson Soccer Alumni Association Scholarship and was a member of the Disney Soccer Showcase National Championship squad.
Krotee spent three seasons with Reading United AC U-20 from 2006-09. Prior to that, he was a member of the Olympics Development Program First Team (USA EPYSA) from 2002-04.

Barboto, who built the Iona College Gaels into one of the top Division I mens soccer programs in the area, will lead mens soccer at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan announced today.
In announcing the appointment of Barboto as NJITs fourth head mens soccer coach in the programs Division I era, Kaplan said: Fernando is a proven Division I head coach with New Jersey roots, who is respected throughout the region for the program he has built at Iona. We are pleased that he will guide our program and we look forward to a successful future with him as our coach in the years to come.
Under Barboto, who completed his 13th season at Iona in November 2015, the Gaels have become a perennial top contender in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Starting in 2008, when Iona posted a record of 11-6-1, the Gaels have reached double-digit wins totals in five of the past eight seasons. They finished 2015 at 10-7-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the MAAC.
In that same eight-year period, Barbotos Gaels have had just one sub-.500 record and that was in 2012, when they finished 7-11 overall, including two close non-conference losses against teams ranked in the Top Six nationally. Iona was 5-2 in MAAC games that season.
Headlining Ionas run of double-digit seasons, the Gaels posted an overall record of 14-2-3 in 2009, earning MAAC Coach of the Year honors for Barboto, and then went 15-4-1 two year later in 2011.
Not surprisingly, given his teams success, Barboto has helped mold several players who went on to professional soccer, including three in Major League Soccer: Franklin Castellanos (New York Red Bulls); Ignacio Maganto (LA Galaxy); and, Victor Munoz (Sporting Kansas City).
Castellanos was MAAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2013, Maganto took the same honor in 2014, and Marcos Nunez made it three Iona players in a row named MAAC Offensive Player of the Year when he brought home the award in 2015. In doing so, it marked the second time in NCAA Division I history that the same program has had three-straight conference Offensive Players of the Year with a different player winning the honor each time.
Iona under Barboto has had numerous conference award winners. In 2013 alone, the Gaels had five All-MAAC honorees, as well as three NSCAA All-Region selections, and 12 MAAC All-Academic picks.
Im excited about the chance to come to NJIT and build a strong program, said Barboto, who met his new team for the first time on Wednesday afternoon. In meeting with Lenny (Kaplan) and the rest of the people here, I can tell this is a school and department that cares about its mens soccer program, he said. NJIT is a great academic institution that has the resources to create a winning environment.
This is an exciting time to be coming here with a new facility (a new stadium adjoining NJITs $100 million dollar Wellness and Events Center, now under construction) and a new conference (Atlantic Sun).
Barbotos recruiting base at Iona has centered around players from the New Jersey/New York metro area, with a sprinkling of international students. He expects to continue that formula at NJIT.
A 1994 graduate of New Jerseys Montclair State University, Barboto first became a Division I head coach at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA, in 2000.
At Saint Francis, Barboto took over a program that had never won more than four conference games in 11 previous seasons. Under Barbotos guidance, the Red Flash topped their best previous conference record, winning five league games in each of his first two seasons.
He took the helm at Iona in 2003, inheriting a program that had gone winless in 20 matches in 2002. Barbotos first season at the New Rochelle, NY, college produced five wins. He then guided the program to steady progress, getting a winning record of 7-6-5 in 2006, then 8 wins in 2007, before the breakthrough to 11 victories in 2008.
Including that breakthrough season in 2008, Ionas record under Barboto is 85-52-15 over the last eight years.
In conference games, Iona finished on the winning side of the ledger every season from 2006 through 2015. In his 13 seasons at Iona, Barbotos teams were a combined 65-43-10 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games and his conference record at Saint Francis, which competes in the Northeast Conference, was 13-11-3 in three seasons.
His overall record at Iona, including the building years, was 116-103-27 in 13 seasons. His overall record as a Division I head coach is 133-134-34 in 16 seasons.
Coming to NJIT represents a move closer to home for Barboto, who resides in Cresskill, NJ, with his wife, Betina, and their sons Maximus and Tristan, and daughter Valentina.
As an undergraduate at Montclair State, Fernando Barboto was a four-year letter winner and was National Soccer Coaches Association All-America as senior playing for the perennial Division III powerhouse.
He went on to play six professional seasons with the North Jersey Imperials of the United Soccer League.
He began coaching as head coach of the womens soccer team at Montclair State, a position he held from 1995 through 1998.
Leaving his alma mater, Barboto signed on as an assistant mens coach at Lafayette, where he helped the Leopards win two straight Patriot League championships. He went from Lafayette to become head coach at Saint Francis.
At NJIT, Barboto takes over a program that has achieved a measure of success in recent years, earning Top 10 Regional ranking in 2012, finishing eighth in NSCAA North Atlantic Region that year. The 2014 Highlanders were ranked in the NSCAA Southeast Region for seven weeks, as well.
That year, they defeated #22 Navy and followed that in 2015 with a win over #22 St. Francis Brooklyn. NJITs final 2015 record was 5-10-4.
NJIT mens soccer will play its first season as a member of the schools new multi-sport conference, the Atlantic Sun, beginning in 2016.
Mens soccer is NJITs most decorated team over the years, with the schools only national championship in any sport and 12 different players recognized as All-Americans between 1960 and 1983.
Known as Newark College of Engineering until the 1970s, the schools national championship was won by mens soccer in 1960, when the team was champion of the small-college National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The 1961 Highlanders also reached the NAIA championship game in 1961.
Later, they were the first NJIT team to make the move up to NCAA Division I, playing their first schedule in 2004 and becoming postseason-eligible in 2005.
Julian Richens enters his 10th season as the head coach of the mens soccer program at Saint Peter's in 2020-21.
Richens' ninth year in Jersey City was hands down his most successful after guiding the Peacocks to their winningest season in a decade and an outright Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season title. Saint Peter's finished the year with a 13-6-0 overall record as well as a program-best 9-1-0 mark in league play. Along the way, Richens and his staff propelled the squad to an appearance in the 2019 MAAC Championship Finals -- their first such appearance since their last title in 2010 -- after a program-record 10-game winning/unbeaten streak. Despite finishing as the league tournament runners-up, the Peacocks still earned their first regular season crown since 2010 and posted the third-highest win total in single-season school history.
For his efforts behind the bench, Richens earned his first MAAC Coach of the Year award since taking command in 2011 by unanimous selection after the team was selected seventh in the preseason coaches' poll. Richens is the fourth Peacock coach in the program's history to earn the honor, following Gerry McKeown (1994), Cesar Markovic (2003), and Guy Abrahamson (2010). But he was not alone in earning major hardware, as Dominic Laws '21 was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year. The combination of Richens and Laws marked only the second time in program history in which two Peacocks both received MAAC men's soccer major awards, with the other pair being Assaf Sheleg and Guy Abrahamson, who were the Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, in 2010.
Additionally, the Peacocks also led the league with their seven all-conference honorees in 2019, a figure that is tied for the most in a single season in program history (2006). Both Laws and classmate Jordan Jowers '21 also gathered additional postseason hardware as all-region selections by the ECAC and United Soccer Coaches' Association. Saint Peter's also boasted a league-leading 15 MAAC All-Academic Team honorees, as well.
In 2018, Richens helped Saint Peter's post a 5-4-1 MAAC record and 8-9-2 overall record, improving on both MAAC and overall records from the 2017 campaign. Richens' team finished the regular season in sixth place, qualifying for the MAAC playoffs for the first time under his leadership and last time since 2010. During the season, the team had a three-game shutout stretch for the first time since 2010 and scored four goals in consecutive games for the first time since 2007. Richens coached three All-MAAC players in sophomores Jordan Jowers (1st Team) and Dominic Laws (2nd Team), and freshman Jason Dubrovich (Rookie Team), making them the first Peacock trio since 2010 to earn all-league honors in the same season. Additionally, Richens had three separate players win MAAC weekly awards during the season, the teams most weekly honors since 2013.
Over the past two seasons, Richens sports a 21-15-2 overall mark (.553) and a 14-5-1 MAAC tally (.700); the combined 14 conference wins over the last two seasons are the most through any two year period in program history. He also headed the NJCU women's soccer program for one season in 2003-04.
In 2017 under Richens, the Peacocks earned two wins and a tie over playoff qualifying teams (Iona, Hartwick [Sun Belt Conference], and tied with Bucknell [Patriot League]) and earned a tie against Big East foe Seton Hall. The teams 4-0 blowout win over Iona at home was the programs largest margin of victory since the 2014 season. Richens also had rookie-sensation forward Jordan Jowers earn All-MAAC Second team and All-Rookie team honors.
The team led the MAAC in saves and saves per game in 2016 and Richens led Saint Peter's to a team-best seven wins with him at the helm in 2015, while the Peacocks also advanced to the MAAC Tournament that year. Richens has coached two All-MAAC first-team selection, six All-MAAC second-team honorees and two All-Rookie team selections in his tenure at Saint Peter's.
He came to Saint Peters after serving as a mens assistant coach at Rider for four seasons.
Since coming to the United States in 1999, Richens has been a Regional Manager for Noga ProExcel, a national coaching company. He also directed Champions World Camps with AC Milan and served as head coach for New Jersey City Universitys womens team during the 2003 season.
Richens owns and operates Players Edge Soccer, a coaching education company based in Central NJ. A noted youth coach with boys and girls teams and in the last four years his teams have won a National Championship, three State Cups and appeared in seven State Finals. Three of his teams have been national ranked top 15 teams.

Brandsdorfer begins his second season as an assistant coach on Julian Richens staff in 2016.
Brandsdorfer came to Saint Peter's from right down the road at NJIT after serving as an assistant coach for the Highlanders for the 2014 season. He helped NJIT to a 7-8-4 overall mark and 2-3-0 record in the Sun Belt Conference. Brandsdorfer coached the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year (Cristian Marcel) and the conference's Defensive Player of the Year (Marko Drljic).
Prior to coming to Newark, Brandsdorfer was an assistant coach at Drew for the 2013 season, helping the team to an 11-4-5 record. The Rangers finished 2-2-3 in the Landmark Conference and partipated in the first round of the ECAC Tournament.
A three-year member of the Temple men's soccer team, Brandsdorfer registered three goals and two assists for eight points in 48 games. The Owls posted a 26-26-4 overall mark and 15-11-1 in league play in his three seasons. He started his collegiate career at North Florida in 2008.
Brandsdorfer graduated from Temple in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned his Master's Degree from the University of Stirling in the United Kingdom in 2013.
Brett Axelrod begins his third season as assistant men's soccer coach at Fordham in 2018.
In 2017, Axelrod helped coach the Rams to the NCAA Elite 8 for the first time in program history which culminated in a #11 national ranking at season's end. Working primarily with the goalkeepers, he coached Rashid Nuhu, who earned 1st Team All-Atlantic 10 and 2nd Team All-Midwest Region honors and was also named to the ECAC 1st team.
In 2016, Axelrod helped coach the Rams to their second Atlantic 10 championship in the last three years. Nuhu earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors and captured the Atlantic 10 Championship's Most Outstanding Player Award.
Axelrod spent the 2014 and 2015 season in Brooklyn, serving as an assistant coach at LIU where he worked primarily with goalkeepers. He helped the Blackbirds win the 2015 NEC Championship as LIU finished the regular season was a perfect 7-0 mark, ranking second in the conference in goals against average.
A four-year letter winner at Whitman College, where he also coached from 2009 to 2011, Axlerod received a degree in Sociology from the school in 2009. He has played semi-professionally with the Yakima Reds and Kitsap Pumas, both of the Premier Development League, and spent time training with Stoke City FC, Portland Timbers, and Crewe Alexandra FC.
Axelrod holds a USSF National "C" coaching license.
James Hull is in his second year as the top assistant at Stevens Institute of Technology. Hull came to Stevens after a three-year stint as a student assistant coach at Hobart College, serving alongside the Statesmen's staff. Hull assisted in all operations of the nationally-ranked program including recruiting, scouting, training, and game-day operations.
Prior to that, Hull worked as the director of coaching for Global Premier Soccer where he oversaw the implementation of curriculum, club budgets, scheduling, and facility management in addition to other duties.
Hull graduated from Hobart in 2016 with a degree in physics.

Through this one day camp, EXACT Soccer has made me realize that my dream is so possible to reach. It's the only camp I've been to, but I was able to meet so many new people who share the same passion as me. I also learned how to elevate my recruiting game to reach my goal much easier.

I brought my son to this camp not really knowing what to expect and was concerned about how young he was for the camp, since it appears designed around high school level players. I was surprised by the in-depth amount of information that EXACT provided us regarding how to prepare for the college recruitment process. Without a doubt, we would have missed out on the opportunity to know how the process works and the information you provided was insightful and we have confidence moving forward as our son moves into high school and college beyond.
Great job and we look forward to attending more EXACT camps, as well as introduce my younger son to the camps when the time is right. Thank you!

I was surprised to see so many coaches, and having them available to talk to. I wish I would have known about EXACT Sports Elite Camp my junior year. I left feeling like I had personal attention from coaches, and got a better grip on how to navigate the college sports recruitment process.
Great experience meeting coaches, and having the discussion panel with coaches and parents. The games were fun and challenging, which I really enjoyed. Thanks EXACT!

I loved the style of training and playing at the camp. They were open to changes with certain age restrictions and skill differences (as I am one of the younger athletes). Also, I loved how we were able to meet each coach privately, as well as during training. Lastly, the elevator pitch practice was unique and beneficial as it prepares me for the future.

This is the first ID Camp that I have attended and it was a positive experience in every way. The camp was very well organized leading up to the camp with very informative emails and preparation work for the camp. On the day of the camp, registration was well organized and the EXACT team was there to help for every step of the way. Chris was an excellent leader and motivated me from the very beginning. It was amazing to be exposed to real college coaches and to be coached both on and off the field. Getting feedback on the day was very rewarding. I am looking forward to attending EXACT Soccer Academic 50 ID Camp in June/July.

This was a wonderful opportunity to meet coaches and other players in a completely different format. There is a chance to show individual skills that may not be seen in a regular soccer tournament environment. The interaction with coaches is outstanding and I really feel that I was able to get exposure from EXACT that I would not have anywhere else. Thanks for a great session and options to see so many coaches. I can't wait to see where this opportunity leads me!

The best part about the Exact ID camp was the ability to have one-on-one conversation with 30+ college soccer coaches from all over the United States. These coaches were not only from different part of the country, but also coaches at different levels. They say a big part of getting recruited is building relationships with the coaches, and I believe this was a great way to get started! This camp gave us, athletes, the opportunity to learn the basics of college recruiting, the qualities the coaches looking for in a player, and overall get great tips from them.

I went to the first ID Camp in Philly. We were so encouraged that we attended this one in DC. I have always dreamed about 1) going to college and 2) playing soccer in college. I got to meet a lot of great coaches and athletes. I learned something new at each camp. I wish there were more camps close to me so we could attend more. I am a senior and need all the help I can get in hopes to find the right college. I loved how the coaches were there to help us and give us directions on the spot. My mentor Coach was Mike Eckberg. Towson is on my "dream" list - and we are now going to schedule a visit as he suggested. I am so excited and I know I still have a long road ahead, but every journey has a beginning. Even though I am getting started a little late, I feel like EXACT really has helped me come flying out of the gate!

The numerous pieces of advice for student athletes was really good. This camp was a confidence builder for my son, and also empowering. Thanks for a well organized and educational camp.

The information shared throughout the camp was priceless. EXACT Sports and the coaches were so approachable and willing to share all and any knowledge to the athletes and the parents. (line break) Our son is entering 10th grade and we were not aware of any such camps. He attended a showcase with the HS JV team last summer, but they did not share any information. He attended a college sponsored team camp the week before the EXACT Camp and there were only 5 college coaches that attended that camp. We were so happy with the EXACT's structure and all the opportunities that they give the athletes and parents to ask questions. We will attend another camp before our son graduates HS. Thank you!

I attended the camp with my son. The information that the EXACT personnel provided was excellent. We are now much more informed regarding the college recruiting and scholarship qualification's. The coaches that mentored the boys were also very knowledgeable, devoted, and fun. The rating that was provided after the camp was very helpful to help guide my son with his future training. The camp helped to boost my son's confidence and love for the game. I cannot say enough about the camp. You guys are the best ! Thanks for your efforts!
